It's a similar situation with raspberry bushes. And lingonberries are probably not going to be as prolific here as they would be in a cooler climate with a little more sun exposure. In conclusion, it is possible to grow them, but it is not a "just plant then forget about it" species here. If your watering habits are a little spotty at best, lingonberries are going to have a very narrow tolerance to sunlight. One more observation, it is possible for potted lingonberries to survive in a 7+ hour sun location here, so long as they get very consistent water and it is not summer, but they are much happier in partial 4-5 hour morning sun. Many of these types of plants do much better in morning sun than evening sun because it is still relatively cool/moist in the early part of the day, and the plant can receive the sun without drying out. But they also easily dry out in the hot sunny climate of Southern California, so full sun can also kill them off in this climate zone. Lingonberries need a fair amount of sunlight, and will wither if you simply plant them in partial shade. I have it planted in a partially shaded area that receives a fair amount of sun in the early part of the day. They will grow, but only if planted in the right place and given consistent water, especially in the summer (note this means a little water every 2-3 days). ![]() ![]() I am growing a lingonberry bush in Southern California.
